Geoffrey Vickers was working as a civil servant.
Vickers found the goal-seeking model of human behavior inadequate. He thought life was about sustaining relationships and goal-seeking was just one part of that. Consistent with these ideas, he developed an epistemology called Appreciative systems, i.e., the code by which we attach meaning to communication as well as the system of concepts and values through which we see and create our worlds.
